The Creative Arts Lounge and Media Center (The CALM Center) is a nonprofit art and media educational center which was developed for the underprivileged and at-risk students of Philadelphia. The CALM Center is intended to bridge the gap between art and technology on the path of entrepreneurship. Our vision is to be the gap filler that enhances artistic abilities for underprivileged students in preparation for job placement and entrepreneurship. Our Goal is to combat dropout and unemployment rates and prepare for job placements.
“Entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship. It drives everything: Job creation, poverty alleviation, innovation.”
Each year, the number of foster children and adolescents increases in the united states by 10,000. About half exit the overall number exit system; leaving over 100,000 waiting another year. Moreover, over 1,000 adolescents age out of the system never ending up in a stable family and with little to no financial resources. The Creative Arts Lounge and Media Center (C.A.L.M.) aims to be the gap filler that enhances soft and artistic abilities for underprivileged students in preparation for job placement and entrepreneurship.
We work with the community on a series software-based and hardware-based workshops to prepare them for entrepreneurship and job placement. We work in small group sizes for the increased personal development, problem-solving, focused attention, and addressing specific questions on what’s being learned.
The C.A.L.M. Center runs a free youth and adolescent program, while putting on charity events in the community. Your donation helps contribute to our give back initiatives. Moreover, Donations help keep the free programs free.
