Program Overview

Each year, the number of foster children and adolescents increases in the united states by 10,000. About half exit the overall number exit system; leaving over 100,000 waiting another year. Moreover, over 1,000 adolescents age out of the system never ending up in a stable family and with little to no financial resources. The Creative Arts Lounge and Media Center (C.A.L.M.) aims to be the gap filler that enhances soft and artistic abilities for underprivileged students in preparation for job placement and entrepreneurship.

The C.A.L.M. Center is premiering a foster child development program to help prepare foster youth and adolescents for success in the economic world. Our instructors work with the scholars to help develop their own business ideas and/or prepare them to work for another business.

Instructors work with the scholars to develop visions boards, mission and vision statements, business plans, as well as marketing and advertising campaigns. In addition, we assist them with developing and creating their business images with photoshoots, video shoots, audio ads, and print design and web designs.

Scholars learn to design programs such as Photoshop, illustrator, premiere, after effects, and InDesign and software programs i.e. Microsoft and google word, excel, outlook, and powerpoint.

During the development of their businesses, scholars are taught different marketing and branding theories and how to operate the different equipment needed to produce the different end products.

In order to expose these future business owners or current business owners, scholars take trips to other businesses and media outlets.

At the end of the program, scholars put on professional exhibitions of their developed business.
The C.A.L.M. Center believes that each youth and adolescent should be properly nourished in order to effectively focus and perform within our summer development program. Therefore, scholars will receive breakfast, lunch, and snack. Meals will also be made available to community members to any requesting community members.

The center will also provide counseling to any scholar or community member in need of council and life skills workshops to instruct scholars on budgeting, parenting, and meal planning for entrepreneurs.

Working with youth and adolescents in low-income and single-parent households, we understand the value transporting the scholar to and from the program. The C.A.L.M. Center will provide pick-up and drop off transportation.

Community Need

The project enhances the disadvantage community’s ability to develop an alternative income while unemployed or underemployed. We are creating future business owners that will, in turn, employ and invest in the people, structure, and mental development of the local community.
